Most people only buy a new mattress every 10 years, but over time your body’s needs change. Weight fluctuation, injury, or a new arrival in the family mean you’ll most likley need a different sleep surface.
A.H. Beard had a vision of bed that could track and adapt to your changing sleep needs over time.
With Built in tracking, firmness adjustments, and adjustable frame meant that the bed could adapt to changing needs over time.
Inbuilt sleep sensors allowed users to understand the optimal firmness for their body.
Each side of the bed is individually controlled by the app, allowing users to optimise comfort.
Multiple pre-set and customisable positions were available to enable resting in the most comfortable way.
Due to hardware constraints, one challenge that arose was pairing the mattress with the users smartphone. Through multiple rounds of testing we were able to design a flow that enabled users to successfully set up each part of the mattress without, audio, visual or kinesthetic prompts.
Working in collaboration with the mattress engineering team at the factory, we were able to uncover and solve for pain-points that would arise during interaction with the app, such as no serial numbers to reference devices for troubleshooting.
Launching Sleepsense was only the start of the journey. All touch points had to be considered — As part of this project we approached how retail staff go through training to how customer service staff will respond to, and prioritise customer feedback.
Since the launch, they have expanded their range of smart sleep tech, and are continuing to iterate & improve their digital products.
